Get up and dance!

  • Key Stage 1
  • 30-45 minutes
  • Science, Design and Technology (Forces)
  • 30 Pupils

Students become DJ's and learn how cogs and gears work together in this dynamic multi-media learning experience. Make minifigures dance and show off your own awesome moves!

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore how pushing on an object can change the speed or direction of its motion.
  • Understand that objects push on one another when they touch and that this can change their motion.
  • Explore how gears of different sizes push each other, which makes them move faster or slower.

Push Car Derby

  • Key Stage 1
  • 30-45 minutes
  • Science, Design and Technology (Forces and Friction)
  • 30 pupils

Build and experiment with push and pull forces to make a car that can be named the Push Car Derby Champion! Students will get to build a launcher and car while learning about fair science experiments.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore and explain how force and friction can change the speed of an object and affect how far it will go in a push car race.

Racing Car

  • Key Stage 2
  • 30-45 minutes
  • Science, Design & Technology (Motion and pattern recognition)
  • 30 pupils

Students learn how to build a Starfish Car and a spring-powered launching mechanism while learning about variables such as mass and rolling resistance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Customise a race car to explore different variables, such as mass and rolling resistance, to see whose car can go the farthest.
  • Record data and use it to make predictions and recognise patterns.

Bobsleigh

  • Key Stage 2
  • 30-45 minutes
  • Science, Design & Technology (Gravity)
  • 30 pupils

Take to the mountains and build a bobsleigh and ramp. Students learn about how gravity affects motion and the diffrence between mass and volume.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore how gravity affects the motion of bobsleighs based on mass.
  • Observe a pattern and make predictions
  • Understand the difference between mass and volume.

Gravity Car Derby

  • Key Stage 2
  • 30-45 minutes
  • Science, Design & Technology (Forces and Gravity)

Students explore the effects of unbalanced and balanced forces on a gravity-powered car, with a twist - the car has no wheels! Build a ramp and learn about variables such as a fair test and safety.

Learning Objectives:

  • Conduct an investigation to collect evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of a gravity-powered car.
  • Design, build and test a safe gravity-powered car.
