TORONTO (June 29, 2018) – Whoa, Canada! LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Toronto kicked off Canada Day celebrations yesterday by securing the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest LEGO® brick flag with a 20-by-10-foot Canadian flag build comprised of nearly 250,000 LEGO® bricks.
Led by Canada’s only Master Model Builder, Noel Straatsma, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest LEGO® brick flag consisted of 248,072 LEGO® bricks (182,496 in the flag, 65,576 in the base), 10 builders, four days of building, and countless hours of preparation. The record-breaking flag is now hosted in the attraction for guests to marvel in and take photos with.
“To have a Guinness World Record in the city of Vaughan is an incredible experience,” said Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “We feel this is an important initiative that has international appeal.”
“We’re excited to have made history just in time for Canada Day, and for guests to enjoy the flag in our attraction for years to come,” said Noel Straatsma, Master Model Builder, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Toronto. “We hope the flag proves to children that their imagination is the only limitation to what they can construct.”
Canadians from far and wide can join the historic moment by submitting photos of their patriotic LEGO® builds for a chance to win a LEGO® prize pack. Submissions are currently open on LEGO® Life and close July 2.
As well, visitors can be a part of the historic moment by engraving their name into a LEGO® brick for just $2, which will be showcased on a plaque near the record-breaking flag. All proceeds are donated to child-focused charity, Merlin’s Magic Wand.
LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Toronto’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest LEGO® brick flag shatters the previous record held by Oman Avenues Mall, in Oman, for a 7-by-13 ft. flag built in 2017.
General admission tickets are available online now from a discounted rate of $18. Children two and under are free.
